Antique Staffordshire Pottery Afghan Hounds.

A tall slender dog with a wonderful coat. An old breed introduced from Afghanistan and used for hunting.

In most Staffordshire pottery groups the Afghan is shown as an oversized dog usually with a child. As the royal children were prominent figures in potting we can probably say that this model has Queen Victoria's children modelled standing. The Afghan dogs are seated side view.... It's usually a flat back figure with little decoration to the reverse.
